Meet the Lieutenant Governor
John A. Sanchez
Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez was elected on November 2, 2010, by the citizens of State of New Mexico. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and can trace his public service roots to his great, great grandfather who was a territorial legislator from San Miguel County in 1860.
Lieutenant Governor Sanchez was previously elected to the office of Councilman for the Village of Los Ranchos and also served in the New Mexico House of Representatives. In 2005, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez was recognized as one of the Top 40 Most Influential Hispanics in the country, and in 2013, he was named to Governing Magazine’s list of “State Republican Officials to Watch in 2013.”
Lieutenant Governor Sanchez serves on several boards and commissions including the State Board of Finance; the Military Base Planning Commission; the Mortgage Finance Authority; the Spaceport Authority; and the Community Development Council. He is also an active member of the National Lieutenant Governors Association and currently serves as the West Regional Chairman and Chairman of the International Committee.
Lieutenant Governor Sanchez and his wife, Debra, are the proud parents of two grown daughters, and reside in Albuquerque.
